Radiant Cooling System

PURPOSE:

A radiant cooling system refers to a temperature-controlled surface that cools indoor temperatures by removing sensible heat and where more than half of heat transfer occurs through thermal radiation.

VISION:

Radiant cooling systems circulate chilled water through a network of pipes that turn the floors, walls and ceilings of a conditioned space into cooled surfaces which evenly absorb heat energy.

The  efficiency  of  radiant  cooling  system  is  about 33%  better  than  a  highly  efficient  conventional  air conditioning system.

Thermal Storage System

PURPOSE:

Thermal storage allows us to create a cold storage during non-peak hours and use such storage during peak hours. The system serves three main purposes:

To average out the demand by storing cooling during lean demand periods and utilizing it during peak demand periods.

To provide backup during power outage.

To reduce demand for power during peak tariff periods.

PROCESS:

During night time, off-peak hours, water that contains 25% ethylene or propylene glycol is cooled by a chiller. That solution circulates inside the heat exchanger within the Ice Bank tank, freezing 95% of the water that surrounds the heat exchanger inside the tank. The water surrounding the heat exchanger never leaves the tank

Ice is created uniformly inside the Ice Bank tank via CALMAC’s, counter-flow-heat exchanger tubes. As ice forms, water still moves freely, which prevents damage to the tank. To fully charge an Ice Bank tank takes from six to 12 hours.

During the day-time on peak hours, the glycol solution circulates through the ice storage tanks to deliver the stored energy to the building to augment or offset electric chiller cooling.  The cold glycol is delivered at the proper temperature to the cooling coil in an air handler.

A fan blows air over the coils to deliver cooling to the occupant spaces.  People feel cool and comfortable and never know ice storage is being used to save money on cooling costs

Green Roofing System

Have you ever noticed those rooftops that look like mini gardens filled with lush green plants and small shrubs, that look so aesthetically pleasing and serene that you instantly imagine how relaxing it would be to sit there amidst the greenery every day! This desire is also stemmed from the fact that there is an absolute lack of such greenery around us, that we once where so used to, while growing up. Those dear readers, are what are called GREEN ROOFS! They are often also referred to as Living Roofs, and rightly so.
 

WHY DO WE NEED GREEN ROOFS?
 

Due to rapid urbanization and population growth, the necessity to recover green space is becoming increasingly critical to maintain the environments quality. Installing green roofs is one way to reduce the negative impact of development while providing numerous environment, economic and social benefits

WHERE DID THIS TREND STARTED?
 

Green roofs have been in wide use for quite some time now.  The green roof traditions originally started in Germany about 100 years ago. In 1980’s modern green roof technology was a common knowledge in Germany while the rest of the world was aloof to this idea and technology. It is estimated that 12% of all flat roofs in that country are green and the German green roof industry is growing 10% to 15% per year. Similarly, green roofs have been gaining popularity in Australia, Canada, USA and United Kingdom where regulations have been introduced that make green roofs a mandate.

Bamboo Construction

PURPOSE:

Bamboo is one of the most amazingly versatile and sustainable building materials available. Ecologically viable alternative to timber for construction.

Materials that are used in green design are always assessed for their environmental impact. Bamboo can replace concrete, steel or wood, depending on the situation and the application.

WHY IT CAN USED AS CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL?

•It has strength, flexibility and versatility and therefore it is a suitable material for practically every part of the house.

• It is very economical because it is a local product.

•Bamboo has a very attractive color tone and its skin is very smooth, it does not need to be polished.

•The construction using bamboo can be combined with other materials such as wood, metal, steel and others.

•Bamboo is one of the strongest building materials, tensile strength is 28,000 pounds per square inch versus 23,000 pounds per square inch for steel.

•It has a great capacity for shock absorption, which makes it particularly useful in earthquake-prone areas.

•Bamboo is extremely lightweight. Consequently, building with bamboo can be accomplished faster with simple tools than building with other materials. Cranes and other heavy machinery are rarely required

Automated Parking System

PURPOSE:

Automated parking is when vehicles are parked with computer controlled motorized devices from a drop off location to a storage area with no human in the vehicle.

SEMI AUTOMATED PARKING

Semi- Automated parking is a stacker device that can lift cars above one another up to 4 high in the space of one parking spot. If floor to floor heights are tall enough they can fit into a traditional ramp parking facility.

FULLY AUTOMATED PARKING

Generally five types of systems for movement: 1. Separate devices for horizontal and vertical movement

2. Single device that does both horizontal and vertical movement

3. Circular systems

4. Ferris wheel, carousel or rotary lift

5. Individual pallets that can move the vehicle in multiple directions

PROCESS:

1.Parking cars densely, reducing the cubic volume by typically ½for parking the same number of cars. This reduction has implications for land use, creating green space and walkability.

2. Cars are turned off once they enter the parking facility, so no vehicles are driving and running their engines, greatly reducing all emissions and reducing fuel use. Ventilation for emissions is now not required or greatly reduced.

3. No drivers enter the storage area, so lighting, one of the largest energy costs for a parking facility is at a minimum.

Building Simulation System

PURPOSE AND PROCESS:
 

Building energy simulation, also called building energy modeling (or energy modeling in context), is the use of software to predict the energy use of a building

A typical energy model will have inputs for climate; envelope; internal gains from lighting, equipment, and occupants; heating, cooling, and ventilation systems; schedules of occupants, equipment, and lighting Energy models will output building energy use predictions in typical end-use categories: heating, cooling, lighting, fan ,plug and process. In addition to energy units, most software includes utility rates input, and can predict energy costs.

Energy-savings measures can be calculated using simple spreadsheets and a wide variety of bespoke software applications are available

APPLICATIONS:

•Building design: Many modern commercial or residential building codes require minimum energy performance. Energy modeling can be used to demonstrate compliance, or predict energy consumption of proposed developments.

• Life cycle and cost analysis: Comparing different building design alternatives to determine which is the least cost, including capital costs and (at a minimum) energy costs. Sometimes referred to as Total Cost of Ownership analysis.

•Energy retrofit analysis: In conjunction with an energy audit or deep energy retrofit an energy model can be used to predict savings associated to proposed energy cost measures (often called ECMs).

ACCURACY:

There are normally occurring uncertainties in building design and building energy assessment. Yezioro, Dong and Leite developed an artificial intelligence approach towards assessing building performance simulation results and found that more detailed simulation tools have the best simulation performance in terms of heating and cooling electricity consumption within 3% of mean absolute error.

STANDARDS AND PRACTISES

ASHRAE 90.1 : In the US, ASHRAE 90.1's Energy Cost Budget (ECB) method is a commonly used baseline for energy modeling comparisons.
